Washingtonian's watch out, the Red Sox Nation will be invading the Nation's Capital from June 23rd thru the 25th. The reason for this invasion is that the Boston Red Sox will be in town to play our Washington Nationals for a three game series.
The Boston Red Sox baseball team has one of the greatest followings in baseball if not in all sports. The fans that make up Red Sox Nation are some of the most loyal and wisest baseball fans in the world. The reach of Red Sox Nation can be felt across the entire country. Where ever the Red Sox play you will find the Red Sox Nation doing their very best to make their team feel like they are the home team.
During the next three days Red Sox Nation will make their presence known at Nationals Park where they will be out in full force. For the Nationals' owner's, the three game series with the Red Sox will defiantly help the overall attendance numbers. After 36 home games the Nationals are averaging around 21,000 spectators per game.
There is a real good chance the Red Sox and the Nats will play in front of a sellout crowd each of the three games played at Nationals Park. I believe the Nationals Park single game attendance record of 40,386 that occurred on opening day April 13, 2009, against the Phillies will be broken. I also think the Nationals Park three game series attendance record of 115,133 that occurred from June 27 to June 29, 2008, against the Orioles will be broken.
The invasion of Red Sox Nation did not always take place when the Red Sox visited the Nation's Capital. The last time the Red Sox played in the Nation's Capital was back on September 17-19, 1971; only 12,361 fans attended the three games between the Red Sox and the Senators.
